We Tried On the Trickiest Fall Trends at Zara—These 7 Made the Cut

Meet Lauren, Who What Wear’s fashion editor and co-founder of The Devils Wear Zara. Lauren is so obsessed with Zara that we started calling her The Zara Scout. Now she’s turning the nickname into a franchise so she can regularly share her insider knowledge of the brand, including all her hacks, secrets, and must-haves with you.

You can bet your bottom dollar that at the start of a new season Mimi and I will make our way into a Zara store and snatch up all the latest trends. Since we do so much trend talking here at Who What Wear, it was time we put our money where our mouths are and test out these fall trends in real life at our go-to shopping destination. Per usual, we tried on way too many items and narrowed down our favorites for you to shop here.

There were definitely some trends that didn’t make the cut, but today we want to focus on positivity and are only showing you the ones we actually wanted to purchase. Ahead, you’ll get to see our candid dressing room pictures, shop our favorite looks, and read up on our commentary accompanying each outfit. From houndstooth to pistachio and back again, Zara proves that for another season, it’s got this whole trend thing down pat. You’ll see.

“I started leaning into skirt suits last fall, and this season, I plan on making them part of my fall uniform. The tailoring on this pinstripe one was so nice in person, and the skirt has a sort of cargo pocket on it giving it a forward edge. Sorry for my exposed bra—I forgot to grab a shirt to wear underneath, oops.” — Lauren Eggertsen

“I never would have ever tried this on in the past. The idea of a faux-leather dress feels weird to me, but after trying it out, I like the look. It really is an instant outfit—no major accessories needed.” — Mimi Postigo

“I love the way this leather trend has taken off this season, but I don’t love the price point most of the time. That’s why this trend is amazing to buy at Zara because the pieces look so expensive but aren’t.” — Lauren

“I also styled this over a plaid pleated midi skirt since the first look was a bit less practical. Thanks to the belt, I still have a shape even though I’m wearing two silhouettes that are a bit on the long side.” — Lauren

“When I saw this punk goth but make it romantic and fancy trend come down the runway I was immediately intrigued. I was wearing cowboy boots in this picture but I love the way Zara styled the dress in the below e-commerce picture. So I plan on wearing this with my Dr.Martens and calling it a day.” — Lauren

“I legit never would have picked something houndstooth up to wear in the past. Fall 2019 has changed me. I feel like a boss bitch in this. I foresee many compliments when wearing this blazer. It has some dope gold buttons detail, too.” — Mimi

“I don’t know what came over me in this dressing room, but apparently I love wearing jackets as dresses now. This houndstooth piece was a bit oversize, but I loved it. Below you can see how good it also looks with jeans and a blouse, but I plan on wearing this one as a dress with knee-high boots and a turtleneck until further notice.”—Lauren

“Pistachio! One of my favorite color trends of the season. This coat runs a bit more on the mint side of the spectrum, but I loved it nonetheless. Why settle for a neutral coat when you could have a fun one like this?” — Lauren

“I’m not one of those people who can do the whole pajamas in public thing, sadly. But after trying this set on, maybe I am. Once I figure out how to make this shirt look like I’m not drowning in it, I think I’d look hella chic. It’s a cool creamy white color with a really faint stripe pattern, and I obviously love the black piping on the shirt. I need to find some slingback heels to really step it up.” — Mimi

“This dress looks richer in person, I promise. It’s a really pretty beige-ish mustard color in this luxe silky fabric. I’m liking the twist on the classic shirtdress with the tie in front—I recently read a story on WWW, and apparently, this is also a big fall dress trend. Into it.” — Mimi

“The knit-on-knit trend was one I was anxious to try, but this set settled all my nerves. I clearly need to get the pants hemmed but other than that, this co-ord set feels fresh for me, and I like it.” — Lauren
