A Full Hunter's Moon Is Coming Oct. 13, and It's Going to Light Up the Spooky Sky

A big, bright moon is coming to light up the sky this weekend, folks! A Full Hunter’s Moon will reach its peak on Sunday, Oct. 13, and it’s the only moon all month that will appear in the sky from sunset to sunrise. According to The Old Farmer’s Almanac, the moon will be full from Saturday morning through Tuesday morning, but its brightest phase will be Sunday at 5:08 p.m. ET. Lucky for us down on Earth, the Full Hunter’s Moon appears larger and more orange than a regular full moon because it rises from the horizon during sunset. An orange, Halloween-esque moon in October and on the 13th? Hell yes!

Unlike most full moon names, the Full Hunter’s Moon is not tied to a specific month but instead got its name for what it means for the cooler months ahead. The bright orange color does make for a spooky October, but according to the site, it’s the first full moon to occur after the Harvest Moon, and many believe it got its name “because it signaled the time to go hunting in preparation for Winter.” Make sure to check out the bright moon this weekend!
