Cameroon on Monday night ended Comoros’ dream of becoming African Cup of Nations winners in a 2-1 win.

Naija News reports that Comoros had suffered a major setback ahead of the match after twelve of their team players were ruled out over COVID-19 cases.

The 12 positive tests according to reports include both of the Coelacanths’ fit goalkeepers, with the third goalkeeper, Salim Ben Boina already injured.

Comoros football federation had confirmed this in a statement last Saturday. It reads partly: “The Coelacanths affected by Covid include coach Amir Abdou, our only two goalkeepers, Moyadh Ousseini and Ali Ahamada.”

Despite the setback, Comoros’ performance on the pitch was outstanding last night as they laboured well to put the host country team on their toes.

Naija News understands that Comoros started with left-back Chaker Alhadhur between the posts in Yaounde as their three goalkeepers were all absent on different issues.

They also had captain Nadjim Abdou sent off in the seventh minutes, after which Cameroon Karl Toko-Ekambi put his homeside on the lead with the first goal in the 29th minutes.

Cameroon skipper Vincent Aboubakar sealed the victory for the host after he netted his sixth goal of the tournament.

The Comoros’ became hopeful of ending the game in a tie after Youssouf M’Changama scored a stunning free-kick to bring the game to 2-1.

Their dream, however, turned to a nightmare as the home team refused to get loosed.
