COLOMBO: Sri Lanka’s new President Gotabaya Rajapaksa will swear in his elder brother Mahinda – a former president himself – as prime minister, a spokesman instructed AFP Wednesday.
The brothers are credited with brutally crushing the Tamil Tigers a decade in the past to finish Sri Lanka’s civil battle, with the safety companies they managed accused of battle crimes and a number of human rights abuses.
Authorities spokesman Vijayananda Herath stated Mahinda Rajapaksa will assume duties as premier quickly after incumbent Ranil Wickremesinghe steps down on Thursday morning.
