Fox News, citing a draft letter, reported late on Friday that Trump was poised to revive partial funding to the WHO, matching China’s assessed contribution.
The United States was the WHO’s greatest donor. If the United States matches China’s contribution, as the Fox report indicated, its new funding stage will likely be about one-tenth its earlier funding quantity of about $US400 million ($624 million) per yr.
Responding to criticism about resuming funds, Trump stated, “This is just one of numerous concepts being considered under which we would pay 10 per cent of what we have been paying over many years, matching much lower China payments. Have not made final decision. All funds are frozen.”
